Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team earned its first win over the Lake Erie Storm since 2017, triumphing by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night at Panther Field.
The Panthers won the first meeting between the two programs back when the series began in 2017, but Lake Erie proceeded to tally five wins and a tie over the next six matches before Wesleyan prevailed with a clean sheet victory.
The Panthers move to 8-3-2 overall and 6-2-2 in the G-MAC, taking hold of second place in the G-MAC standings. The Storm now sits fourth at 6-5-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the G-MAC.
After a quiet first 30 minutes, Wesleyan struck first on a corner kick header goal by Adrian Stokke off an assist by Cole Greenshields to take a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.
Coincidentally, those two would connect once again for the Panthers' second goal. Jacob Boling was involved with an assist as well, as Boling threw in to Greenshields and the latter ended up with a hockey assist to Stokke for the defender's second goal of the match and third this season.
Wesleyan's defense held strong as Soufian Khaloufi locked up another clean sheet with three saves on the evening.
The Panthers next play the fourth game of their current five-game homestand, this time battling Ohio Dominican. Kickoff is set for Thursday, October 24th at 6:30 PM.
