Owensboro, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Thomas More on Tuesday night at Panther Field.
It's the first win in Wesleyan men's soccer history against the Saints, as the Panthers move to 1-2-1 all-time vs. Thomas More.
Wesleyan improves to 7-3-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the G-MAC this season, while Thomas More drops to 4-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the G-MAC.
The Panthers took control of the match early on with a free kick score in the 20th minute, as Haakon Torvbraaten connected with Xavier Angel for the latter's first goal this season and just the second of the senior's career.
The 1-0 lead held going into the break, and it didn't take long for the Panthers to double their advantage. Jacob Boling delivered a phenomenal pass to Calum Newson and the forward came through with his sixth score of 2024 in the 54th minute to give Wesleyan some breathing room at 2-0.
The Saints got one back on a penalty kick goal by Arkin Ulusoy, but that was as close as the road team would come as the Panthers' strong defense closed out the win.
Wesleyan turns their attention to the second game of their five-match homestand, this time facing off with Lake Erie on Thursday, October 17 as part of a women's/men's doubleheader. The women begin at 5:00 PM and the men follow at 7:30 PM at Panther Field.
