Softball drops two to Maryville and Ferris State

SMYRNA, TN - The bats were quiet today for the Panthers, as they fell 6-3 to Maryville and 9-0 to Ferris State on Saturday night.

Game One

Wesleyan got up quickly against Maryville, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a Shelbi Patterson sprint to home on a wild pitch.

The Panthers struggled in the middle of the game, as they put runners in scoring position but failed to send them across the plate. Maryville took advantage, scoring all six of their runs over the first three innings. Wesleyan attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh, taking advantage of Maryville miscues to score two runs in the inning. It wasn't enough, however, as KWC dropped this one 6-3.

Grace Colvin and Augusta Garr recorded the only two hits of the game for the Panthers, while Guinny Garr tallied their only RBI. Immi Mann (0-3) struck out three in the loss.

Game Two

It was a pitchers dual early in the game, as both Kentucky Wesleyan and Ferris State were scoreless through three innings of play. Ferris State quickly took control in the fourth, scoring three runs in the inning to take the lead. They would score two in the fourth and four the sixth to give them nine runs in the game.

Wesleyan struggled at the plate, as Megan Matheis recorded the Panther's only hit on a single up the middle in the first inning. Allie Dunn (2-3) struck out four in the loss.

The Panthers will play in the final day of the Music City Invitational tomorrow when they take on McKendree at 1 p.m. and Purdue Northwest at 3 p.m.
