Panthers compete on final day at Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Kentucky Wesleyan Softball team hit the ball well on Sunday, but it wasn't enough as they suffered a 14-7 defeat at the hands of Union (Tenn.) and an 11-7 setback against #23 Alabama Huntsville.

Game One

Kentucky Wesleyan got off to a strong start in their opener, going up 2-1 after one inning thanks to a Megan Matheis two-run shot to right center. After a four-run inning in the second from Union, Wesleyan got one back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a solo shot from Allie Dunn

Down 8-3 after three innings, the Panthers used small ball to get back in the game in the bottom of the fourth. Dunn and Grace Colvin each walked, and a after a double steal, Immi Mann hit an RBI single to score Dunn. Colvin scored on the next at bat thanks to a sacrifice fly from Sarah Linville. After a few more walks, Guinny Garr walked with the bases loaded to score Mann. Megan Metheis closed out the scoring with a sacrifice fly to score Shelbi Patterson, which made it just a one-run game after four.

The Bulldogs managed to plate six over the final three innings to seal the win.

Megan Metheis went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI's and a run scored. Augusta Garr notched two hits while Allie Dunn scored two runs. Dunn pitched all seven innings and struck out two in the loss.

Just like in game one, Wesleyan opened up strong. Megan Matheis continued her hot streak with a two-run shot to open the game, scoring Augusta Garr, who scored on a single earlier in the inning.

Augusta Garr hit an RBI single to score Sarah Linville early in the second inning, giving Wesleyan a 3-2 lead. Kennedy Matheis joined in her cousin's home run hitting ways a few batters later, smashing a grand slam over the fence to extend the Panther's lead to 7-2.

Alabama-Huntsville turned it up, scoring eight runs over the final two innings to take the victory.
