GREENWOOD, SC. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team continued its day at the Carolina Clash with two more duals on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers suffered a 42-6 loss to Mount Olive before a 43-6 defeat from North Carolina-Pembroke.
Bryar Lane picked-up his second win of the day against Mount Olive as he pinned Caleb Teague 85 seconds into the match. Later in the dual
Drayden McKerrow took a 7-2 loss at 197-pounds while
Robert Ward narrowly lost his heavyweight match 3-1.
Glenn Mayes earned an 8-7 decision at 149-pounds. Trailing 5-2 entering the final period, Mayes recorded two takedowns to overcome the riding time point and pick-up the win.
Kelton Farmer earned a decision in the heavyweight match to go to 2-0 on the day. Behind two takedowns in the opening period, Farmer took a 7-3 lead into the second frame. Nick Minacapelli tied the match in the second with an escape and takedown, but Farmer recorded a late escape to hold a slim 8-7 lead with two minutes remaining. Farmer did not allow Minacapelli a point in the final two minutes while scoring four points himself. After the riding time bonus, Farmer won 13-7.
The Panthers will travel to Midway, Kentucky on Saturday for three more duals. Wesleyan will face Midway, Thomas More and Brewton-Parker.
