ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team opened its season on Saturday the Kaufman Brand Open. Four wrestlers placed in the season opening event hosted by Maryville University.
Gabe Adams won his opening match at 141 pounds. Adams pinned Rasheek Bonds from McKendree at the start of the third period. Adams lost his next two matches to exit the 141 pound bracket.
Newcomer
Matthew Velasco also placed sixth at 133 pounds. Velasco lost his opening round match, but bounced back in the consolation with a 1-0 decision over Noah Cantu from Indianapolis. He fell 8-4 to Lucas Laux from Maryville in the next round before falling in the fifth-place match.
Drayden McKerrow placed sixth at 197 pounds. McKerrow lost his opening round match to Derek Blubaugh, one of the top wrestlers in the nation before exiting the event with medical forfeits.

Bryson Rowley each paced eighth at heavyweight and 125 pounds.
The Panthers will travel to Louisville, Kentucky on Friday for a match against Bellarmine University. The contest at Knights Hall is scheduled to begin at 6PM CT.
