MARIETTA, GA. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team had a productive day at the Life University Open on Saturday.
Gabe Adams finished the day with a 4-2 record while
Matthew Velasco marched through the consolation bracket, coming up one match shy of the placing rounds.
Velasco finished the day with a 3-2 record at 133-pounds. He started the day with a late second period pin of Tyree Henry of Life University. In the second round Velasco recorded another pin, this time in 2:45. Jace Palmer won a 4-1 decision over Velasco in quarterfinals but in the consolation round Velasco notched a major decision over Hayden Halter of Chattanooga. In the consolation seventh round, Velasco's open ended with a 6-2 loss to Collin Mullins.
At 141-pounds
Gabe Adams won his opening round match 6-1, but fell in the second round. That did not stop Adams from winning his next three matches in the consolation round, including a 20-8 major decision over Keegan Seaver from St. Thomas University. Adams' run ended with a fifth round loss to Taylor Robinson from Mount Olive.
Cade Johnson produced a 3-2 record on the day as well. Johnson recorded a third period pin in the opening round of 157-pounds. He then advanced to the third round after a disqualification of Kaylin Foust in the second round. Zach Lee from Life University defeated Johnson 8-6 in the third round. Johnson won his first consolation match but fell in the consolation fifth round.
At 125-pounds,
Bryson Rowley recorded a notable performance going 2-2 on the day. Rowley started with a loss, but he bounced back with a major decision and pin in the consolation bracket.
The Panthers will travel to Greenwood South Carolina for the Carolina Clash on Saturday December 2
nd. Wesleyan will have matches against Lander, Coker, Mount Olive, and UNC Pembroke.
