CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY - Two early goals were too much for the Panthers to overcome, as Thomas More took down Wesleyan 5-1 on Saturday.
TMU improves to 8-7-1 (6-5-1 G-MAC), while Wesleyan falls to 6-4-6 (3-4-5 G-MAC).
Thomas More opened the game with two goals in the opening three minutes, quickly putting the Panthers in a 2-0 deficit. Wesleyan attempted to come back, as
Matteo Napoletano scored a header off the assist from
Zach Moore to cut the Saints' lead in half. Thomas More didn't let up, as they scored two more goals before the half to go into the locker room up 4-1. Another goal in the second half from the home side gave the game it's final score.
Despite the four-goal differential, the team's were tied with 10 shots apiece, with Thomas More having a 7-5 edge on shots-on-goal.
Matteo Napoletano's goal was his eighth of the season, while
Zach Moore's assist was his fifth.
Santiago Henrich led with four shots, two of which were on goal.
Wesleyan is now in a must win situation, as they sit in a three-way tie for seventh in the G-MAC standings. Their first chance to win will be this Wednesday, as they host the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans at 5 p.m. CT on Panther Field.
