Panthers Fall at Home to Oilers

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team fell to the University of Findlay 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Oilers were able to hold back the Panthers late surge as Chloe Hinchcliffe recorded the lone goal for Wesleyan.

The Oilers (8-3-2, 8-1 GMAC) took seven shots in the opening period, but could not break through the Panthers defense. With a strong Northwest wind sweeping across Panther Field, making possession even more difficult, the Panthers went into intermission facing a scoreless tie.

It was the Oilers who struck first as they recorded the first goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Less than 10 minutes later Findlay would add another. A steal of possession in the Panthers' zone, allowed Ellie Janszen to find Hannah Rybicki for the second goal in the 71st minute.

The Panthers (2-10, 2-8 GMAC) increased the intensity thereafter. Late substitutions allowed Wesleyan to increase the tempo and in the 85th minute cut the deficit in half. After a series of throw-ins form the Findlay zone, Chloe Hinchcliffe got through the Oilers' defense and beat keeper Kennedy Slovak for the score.

Wesleyan continued the offensive pressure through the final five minutes, but could not break through again. The Panthers finished with seven shots, five on goal. Hinchcliffe recorded two shots, both on goal.

The Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio next week for a match against Ohio Dominican on Thursday evening. The Match is scheduled to start at 4 PM CT.
