SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After an Invitational win last week, the Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team was back on the mat on Saturday, this time for a pair of duals. The Panthers opened the day with a tough 29-21 loss to Quincy University and finished the day with a loss to Drury University.
The Panthers opened the day against the Hawks and recorded three pins in the match. Trailing 10-0 after two weight classes,
Gabe Adams got Wesleyan on the board with a 5-3 decision over Mar-Trece Smith at 141 pounds.
Cade Johnson recorded a pin a 157 pounds. Tied early in the second period, Johnson reversed Julian Solis to his back for a pin at 4:47.
The Hawks led 19-9 after the Johnson pin, but recorded two pins and a major decision to clinch the victory. At the end of the day
Drayden McKerrow notched a pin 48 seconds in to the second period of his 197 pound match while
Robert Ward recorded a first period pin at heavyweight. Late in the opening period Ward took down Matt Ludwig to his back to end the bout.
Drury picked-up a 50-0 victory over the Panthers to end the day. Johnson has the best run of the match. Jon O'Connell and Johnson were tied after three periods, but a riding time bonus point decided the match for O'Connell 3-2.
The Panthers will travel to Columbia, Kentucky on Monday for a dual against Lindsey Wilson. The match is scheduled to start at 6PM CT.
