Men's Golf improves every day at the G-MAC Championships

LEXINGTON, KY - Playing with the youngest team in the country, Ken Badylak the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Golf team played some of their best golf of the semester at the G-MAC Championships this weekend, coming in 10th with a team score of 907 (306-303-298). The 907 is 13 strokes better than last year's team, and the 298 is the best team score of the semester for the young Panthers.

"We were in the mix after 27 holes and if we do everything the same but cut the three-putts down to one per person per round we would be playing for the conference title," said Head Coach Ken Badylak. "Evan Beery played awesome this week. He showed so much toughness and handled himself with so much poise."

Evan Beery played some of the best golf of his life this weekend, shooting rounds of 74-76-73 to finish in a tie for 15th with a score of 223 (+7). Beery was Mr. Consistent all weekend, leading the team in pars (35) while recording seven birdies. Camden Robertson posted scores of 74-79-74 to tie for 34th with a 227 (+11). Tyler Nickol also tied for 34th, coming alive after a first round 80 to post closing rounds of 72 and 75. Jonah Graham came in 53rd with a total of 237 (+21) while Evan Schumacher used a final round 76 to tie for 54th with a 240 (+24).

Badylak stated that "we rolled with four freshman and a sophomore all season long. They not only bettered their scoring average from the fall to the spring, but bested last year's team scoring average too. All credit to the players and Christian Tooley. We have asked a lot of them and their families and they have given up a supreme effort. The foundation is set for the foreseeable  future and the players will determine what we will eventually achieve."

Findlay won the medal play with rounds of 292-296-287 to score a +11 875, but lost to Tiffin in the head-to-head matchup Saturday afternoon. Lake Erie's Tony Bodziony carded rounds of 74-67-67 to take medalist honors with a 208 (-8).

After gaining so much experience, the young Panthers will be primed for a breakout season in 2022-23.
