RICHMOND, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan men's golf team placed 18th in the Findlay Spring Invitational at Boone's Trace National Golf Club.
The Panthers shot 43-over as a team, highlighted by an 11-over round two. Wesleyan was one of nine G-MAC teams competing in Richmond.
Braydon Bond led the KWC effort with a score of even-par over the three rounds to finish T-19th among the 110-player field. Bond shot one-under in both the first and second rounds.
Jonathan Kaminski was next in the clubhouse for the Panthers, turning in a card of nine-over to tie for 63rd. Kaminski impressed with an even-par round one to begin the event.
Ben Carter was not far behind, tying for 69th with a score of 10-over. Carter was steady across all three rounds, shooting four-over in the first round before carding back-to-back three-over scores in the latter two rounds.
Ryan Loiars and Thomas Scott rounded out the Wesleyan effort. Loiars shot 25-over to come in 105th and Scott shot 34-over to place 108th.
"Braydon Bond played some incredible golf. This is one of the largest fields we will play in all year, and he maneuvered around this golf course at even par," head coach Ken Badylak said. "Each morning, we had to adjust to cold temperatures, and the wind changed directions each day. Overall, it was a good experience for our guys to get acquainted to having to make these types of adjustments throughout the course of a tournament."
"The format was a little different than our traditional set up," Badylak continued. "I think seeing each other succeed and fail in the same group can help all of us become better players. Generally speaking, you can learn a lot about yourself and your teammates just by watching them, and we had the ability to do that this week. I am hopeful that we can start to see a little bit more consistency as we move forward. The small details are what our attention will be focused on this week."
Host Findlay, the 46th-ranked team in Division II, took home the team title by a staggering 17 strokes after shooting 30-under, including a 16-under round to cap off the event.
Missouri S&T's Rizq Adam Rohizam, the 102nd-ranked player in Division II, won the individual title by six strokes with a card of 15-under.
