Panthers Take Second at Perry Park

PERRY PARK, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team picked-up runner-up honors on Sunday afternoon at the Klash in Kentucky. The Panthers fell to Wisconsin- Parkside by one shot in the 36-hole event contested at Perry Park Golf Resort. The Panthers saw two players earn top-10 honors, including Tyler Nickol winning the individual title.
 
On a cold and windy Saturday, the Panthers played through the tough conditions to post a round of 310. The University of Wisconsin Parkside bested the Panthers by four shots in the opening round. Wesleyan was led by Nickol who opened play with a round of three-over par 75, teammate Camden Robertson was one shot behind Nickol with a round of 76.
 
jonah grahamThe 6,987-yard golf course did not yield any scores under par in the opening round and only one in 36-holes, that round belong to Tyler Nickol who closed with a final round of 70 (-2). Nickol was a shot back of the lead after the first round, but his second round dusted the 51-player field by four shots. The victory marks the first individual win for Nickol and the first for KWC since 2019 when Christian Tooley won in Puerto Rico.
 
The Panthers closed the gap with Parkside through the opening nine holes on Sunday, but the Rangers escaped with a one-shot victory on the back-nine. The Rangers posted a final round of 310 while the Panthers shot 307. Behind another strong final round, Jonah Graham rebounded from an opening 80 to shoot 75 (+3) in the final round and run up the leaderboard 17 spots, placing eighth overall with a 155 (+11) two-day total.
 
Robertson finished in a tie for 10th with a 36-hole total of 156 (76-80). Evan Beery placed tied 26th after carding rounds of carded rounds of 79-82.  Evan Schumacher totaled scores of 80-86 while Ethan Lucas shot 85-87.
 
Despite the one-shot loss, the Panthers sat comfortably in second place in the eight-team field. Wesleyan will travel to Nashville, Tennessee on Monday to play in the Music City Classic. The 36-hole event is hosted by Trevecca Nazarene and will be contested at Hermitage Golf Club.
