ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team finished 10
th at the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday. The Panthers, in year four of existence, recorded the program's first victories at Super Regionals.
Andrew Parker highlighted the day with a sixth-place finish.
Parker recorded the program's first win in program history in the opening round of 133 pounds. Parker earned a 5-3 decision over Drury's Brandon Borlinghaus. In the second period Parker picked up four nearfall points that gave him in the edge in the final period.
After moving into the consolation round after a 13-7 loss, Parker received a bye. In his first consolation match, the Panthers' 133 pounder dominated Cole McCartney from Ouachita Baptist, earning a major 16-3 decision. His win earned a spot in the placement rounds. Parker lost to one of the top 133-pound wrestlers in the nation in Logan Bailey in the next round. Bolinghaus then extracted some revenge in the fifth place match. Parker, wrestling with an injured ACL, is the first wrestler in program history to place at the NCAA Regional.
Gabe Adams fell in his opening 141 pound match, but picked-up a second period pin to advance in the consolation round. Ryan Rioux from Indianapolis ended the Adams tournament in the next round.
Central Oklahoma edged the University of Indianapolis to take the team title 146-129.5. The Panthers finished in 10
th place overall.
