DECATUR, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling produced a strong showing at the Millikin Open on Saturday afternoon. The young Panthers recorded three fifth place finishes and two third places showings in the annual event in central Illinois.
Drayden McKerrow finished 3-1 on the day en route to a third place showing at 197 pounds. McKerrow majored Nathan Rosas of Central College to get to the third-place match. Rosas then bounce over to the fifth-place match to face
Cameron Baker. Baker suffered a tough loss in the placement round as Rosas notched a sudden victory, 6-4. The sophomore McKerrow then pinned Ethan Ramsay from Davenport in 65 seconds to record the highest place for Wesleyan.
Kam'Ron Shannon-Likely place third overall at 184 pounds. Shannon-Likely finished 2-1 on the day with a major decision in the consolation round. At 165 pounds
Cade Johnson finished fifth after going 4-2 on the day. Johnson was bounced to the consolation bracket after his first match. He responded with back-to-back pins, followed by an 8-2 decision to get into the placement rounds. Johnson won the fifth-place match 12-8 over Emanuel Diaz from Aurora University.
Jackson Norton battled back from an injury early in the day to place fifth at 133 pounds. Norton pinned Zan Ely from Aurora in 91 seconds of the fifth-place match.
Robert Ward went 2-2 on the day to place sixth at heavyweight.
The Panthers will travel to Kearney, Nebraska next Saturday as the Panthers will compete in the Younes Hospitality Open.
