Northwood, MI - Fighting tooth and nail for a playoff spot, the Kentucky Wesleyan men's soccer team couldn't quite get it done on Saturday, falling 3-1 to the Northwood Timberwolves.
Northwood moves to 8-5-4 (7-5-1 G-MAC) while Wesleyan falls to 8-6-3 (5-5-3 G-MAC).
It was a rough start for the Panthers, as an own goal in the fifth minute put them down early. The Timberwolves didn't let up, doubling their lead in the 35th minute and taking that 2-0 advantage into the break.
The Panthers looked to be coming back, as a
Maxten Miller goal in the 53rd minute cut the deficit to just one with plenty of time remaining. But missed opportunities plagued the Panthers, and Northwood took advantage, extending their lead back to two with a goal in the 71st minute. Wesleyan couldn't overcome that deficit and fell 3-1.
Northwood outshot Wesleyan 15-9, and held a 9-2 edge on shots-on-goal. This was a game between the two teams with the most yellow cards in the G-MAC, and it showed, as eight cards (7 yellow, 1 red) were issued in the game.
Maxten Miller's goal was his fourth of the year.
Calum Newson tallied three shots, including one on goal.
Arthur Hill made seven saves in goal for the Panthers.
The Panthers aren't out of the playoff hunt yet, and they will have a chance to hopefully extend their season on Tuesday when they host Trevecca Nazarene for senior day. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
