OWENSBORO, KY - After an early goal from Lake Erie, the Kentucky Wesleyan Men's Soccer team was down but not out. With just a few minutes remaining in the game, a late
Santiago Henrich goal gave Wesleyan the 1-1 draw with the defending G-MAC champs.
Kentucky Wesleyan moves to 6-3-2 (3-3-2 G-MAC) while the Storm move to 3-6-3 (2-4-2 G-MAC).
Lake Erie got out to a quick start, scoring in the first minute of play to quickly set the tone and go up 1-0. LEC peppered Wesleyan with 12 total shots in the opening half, but just two of them were on frame. Despite some chances from the Panthers, Wesleyan went into the locker room down 1-0 after 45.Â
Despite Lake Erie controlling much of the second half, Wesleyan showed why they can never be counted out. With just seven minutes remaining,
Max Wawrin launched a throw in that found the head of
Calum Newson, who then headed it to
Jake Peveler, who then headed it back to
Santiago Henrich, who stormed in to put it in the back of the net, giving Wesleyan the tie.
Lake Erie out shot the Panthers 22-8 in the game, yet they only led 5-4 in shots-on-goal.Â
That goal was Henrich's fourth goal of the season. Goalie
Arthur Hill made four saves in the game.Â
Kentucky Wesleyan will stay home next week when they play host to Ohio Dominican on Thursday, October 6. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
