MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team returned to the mat for the second time this week at the Hawk Classic. Clay Critchfield record three pins in four matches in the event hosted by Huntingdon College. 
 
Originally schedule as a dual format, the event moved to a tournament format due to limited participated due to health and safety protocols from COVID-19. The Panthers saw Nick Ornelas and Andrew Parker each pick-up convincing wins in their respective weight classes, each going 2-0 on the day. 
 
Ornelas won by pin twice on the day at 125 pounds. Parker throttled his opponent twice at 141-pounds by earning two technical falls. 
 
Critchfield did not have to wrestle past the first period until the championship round as he earned three first period pins. In the final round Gabriel Pittman picked-up the win over Critchfield 17-2. 
 
At 174-pounds Chris Mapp and Thomas Karlo worked their ways through the bracket as Karlo placed third with Mapp finishing third. Karlo went 3-1 on the day, including a major decision and tech fall. Mapp went 2-2 with a pin and decision. 
 
Kairus Washington represented the Panthers at heavyweight going 2-1. Washington lost in the first round, but responded with back-to-back wins, including a major decision to end the day. 
 
The Panthers will travel to the Great Midwest Championship in two weeks. The two-day event will be contested in Painesville, Ohio on the campus of Lake Erie College on January 22^nd and 23^rd.
