OWENSBORO, Ky. - The KWC Women's Soccer team fought hard on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the No. 22 McKendree Bearcats grinded out a 2-0 victory.
Both teams started out gunning for goal as they combined for eight shot attempts in the first 15 minutes of play. McKendree managed to get a breakthrough goal in the 28th minute of play on a penalty kick. The Panthers kep the Bearcats at bay for the rest of the half and went into break down just 1-0.
The second half saw McKendree pick up the pressure, outshooting the Panthers 15-4 in the frame. Just two minutes into the half, McKendree's Anna Stiffler headed in a goal off a cross to give them a 2-0 lead. The Panthers couldn't get much going offensively in the half as the Bearcats pressed up to force KWC into multiple turnovers.
Despite the loss, goalkeeper Reegan Gerrity was on fire, tying her career high with 14 saves, including a few incredible diving stops to keep the Bearcats off the board.
Chloe Hinchcliffe led the way with five total shots, while
Madisyn Hunt had four shots on goal.
The Panthers will be back in action as they head to Wilmore, Ky., to take on Asbury at 6 p.m. CT.
