WILMORE, Ky. - Kentucky Wesleyan started off hot, and never looked back Saturday night as they took down the Asbury Eagles by a final score of 6-1.
With the win the Panthers move to 3-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 1-3.
Wesleyan controlled the game from the opening kickoff and didn't allow an Asbury shot attempt for the first 12 minutes of play. Sophomore
Bree Owen opened up the scoring for the Panthers, notching her first goal of the year on a shot in the 16th minute of play. Just before the end of the half, senior defender
Madeline Clements scored the first goal of her impressive career to put KWC up 2-0 at the break.
Asbury took one back early in the second half, before reigning National Player of the Week
Chloe Hinchcliffe finished a 1-v-1 with the goal to extend Wesleyan's lead. Not one minute later senior
Madisyn Hunt cut the ball back and knocked in a gorgeous shot from the top of the 18 to make it a 4-1 game. The Panthers kept it coming, as Hunt and Hinchcliffe would each tack on one more goal to make it a 6-1 final score.
Hunt and Hinchcliffe each had two goals on the night, while
Natalie Hinchcliffe and
Shelby Taylor each nabbed an assist.
Hunt tallied an incredible 10 shots, with six being on frame.
Chloe Hinchcliffe took six total shots, with four on frame.
The Panthers out shot the Eagles 28-9, including an 18-6 edge in shots on goal.
Goalie
Reegan Garrity was only forced to make four saves in the win, while
Elizabeth Burns made one.
The Panthers are back in action next Thursday as they head to Nasvhille to take on Trevecca Nazarine in G-MAC action. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
