Panthers Fall to Fighting Scots

VIENNA, W. VA – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team traveled to Vienna, West Virginia to take on the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley. The Panthers (3-2-2) looked to spoil the perfect record of the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon.

Ohio Valley wasted no time getting on the board in the seventh minute with a goal by Carlos Barcia. The Panthers (3-3-2 GMAC) answered with a goal in the 18th minute by Julian Gonzalez, but from that point on it was all Ohio Valley. The Fighting Scots would add on two more goals before the half by Vicente Forment and Benjamin Grelet-Cons.

The defense for Kentucky Wesleyan kept the OVU attack in check for a good portion of the second half until a goal in the 71st minute by Hugo Becerra. Just seven minutes later William Berg would score a goal of his own.

Gonzalez  would take advantage of a penalty kick, scoring his second goal of the afternoon. Ohio Valley would not be finished as they added another goal before the end of the match.

The Panthers were able to get five shots on goal. Max Wawrin would take two shots, both on goal and Gonzalez would take three shots, all three on goal capitalizing on two, scoring both goals for the Panthers.

Three Panthers would get time between the posts, Lucas Daunhauer, Jacob Russ, and Zach Moore. Daunhauer would have three saves on the afternoon and Russ would have six, as the Fighting Scots would take 34 shots, 15 on goal.

The Panthers next game will be in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Quarterfinal on Saturday, April 24th. The opponent and site are still to be determined.
