Still Dancing

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – For the third consecutive season the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team is going to play for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Title. The Panthers buried 19 three-points shots in a 77-57 win over Findlay in the Conference Semifinals on Friday evening. Kaylee Clifford accounted for seven of those three-point shots in the Callan Center on the campus of Cedarville University. The Panthers will face Tiffin on Saturday afternoon for the Championship. The Dragons upset the host Yellow Jackets 72-56 in the night's first game.

The Oilers (12-11) refused to come out of their defensive zone for most of the game and after one quarter of play Findlay led 17-13. The Panthers (18-4) took the lead (26-25) with a Lily Miller lay-up with 4:41 left in the half and never trailed again. Miller sparked an 11-0 run that saw Emma Johnson and Shaylee McDonald each hit three-point shots.

Tahlia WaltonKaylee Willis' three-point shot before the end of the half gave the Panthers a 39-27 lead. Clifford scored 11 points in the opening half as the Panthers outscored the Oilers 26-10 in the frame.

Findlay got the game within 39-31 early in the third quarter. However, three straight threes ended any thought of the Oilers getting closer. Leah Richardson drained two threes from the corner while Jordyn Barga capped off the 9-0 run with one from the wing, forcing Findlay to call timeout.

The shooting barrage continued throughout the rest of the quarter. For good measure McDonald buried another three-point basket in the final seconds of the quarter and with the shot clock winding down, giving Wesleyan a 63-42 lead.

In the final frame Findlay decided to come out of their zone defense and start applying full court pressure. The tactic got the Oilers as close as dozen, but the Panthers ran the shot clock down and limited possessions throughout the final frame to close out a 20-point win.

Clifford finished with 23 points, six rebounds and two assists on the night. Leah Richardson added 14 points, six assists, and five steals. McDonald closed-out the game with 11 points and five rebounds.

The Panthers will back at the Callan Center on Saturday for the Championship game. Tip-off against Tiffin is scheduled for 2PM CT.
