Fourth quarter surge propels Panthers to victory

OWENSBORO, KY - Through three quarters, the game between KWC and Findlay looked as though it was heading for a tight finish, but the Panthers caught fire in the fourth, outscoring the Oilers by nine to nab a 71-57 victory. Leah Richardson tied a career high with 18 points in the contest.

With the win the Panthers move to 5-3 (2-0 G-MAC) while the Oilers drop to 2-4 (1-1 G-MAC).

Tied at 8-8 midway through the opening frame, Cali Nolot put in a layup and Leah Richardson knocked in a three to give KWC a five point lead. Findlay stormed back and led 18-15 after one.

Emma Johnson opened up the second quarter by hitting three straight free throws after she was fouled on a three to tie things up at 18 all. A three pointer a few minutes later by Shiya Hoosier extended the Panther lead to four. Johnson and Shaylee McDonald each hit threes in the final two minutes of the first half and the Panthers led 33-28 at the break.

Up 38-37 early in the third quarter, KWC went on an 11-0 run capped off by a Leah Richardson three to lead 49-37 with 3:10 left. UF then closed on a 7-0 run themselves and KWC led 49-44 after three.

Early in the fourth quarter Corina Conley hit two straight threes to extend Wesleyan's lead back to 11. When the Oilers cut it back to 10 with 1:37 left, Leah Richardson hit a dagger three pointer to break the UF hearts. The Panthers hit six straight free throws at the end to give the game it's final score.

KWC shot 20-56 (35.7%) and 15-38 (39.5%) from behind the arc. The Oilers shot 19-50 (38%) and 3-15 (20%) from three. Yet again, turnovers were the difference for the Panthers, as they forced Findlay to cough up the ball 22 times while only committing 13 of their own.

Leah Richardson tied a career high with 18 points, going 6-9 from the three point line. Cali Nolot (10) and Emma Johnson (10) each finished in double figures. Tahlia Walton had an extremely solid stat line of eight points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

The Panthers will travel to Canton, Oh. next week to take on Walsh on Thursday and Malone on Saturday.
