Panthers take down Malone for second time this season

CANTON, OH - The Panther's seem to have Malone's number this year, as they defeated the Pioneers 2-0 for their second win over their foes from up north in as many games. While it wasn't as exciting as their 5-4 OT thriller earlier this season, this victory was just as sweet.

With the win the Panthers move to 2-12 (2-11 G-MAC) while the Pioneers drop to 1-16 (1-12 G-MAC).

The opening half was defensive minded, as the teams only managed a combined seven shots in the frame.

Kentucky Wesleyan got off to a great start in the second half, as Calum Newson scored his team leading sixth goal of the season on a cheeky flick over the goalkeeper just three minutes into the half. In the 66th minute, Declan Sandifer headed in a beautiful throw-in by Jake Peveler to give the Panthers a two goal cushion. Matthew Meyer made some key saves in the final 20 minutes and the Panthers would walk away with the victory.

Peveler, Newson, and Santiago Henrich each tallied two shots. Wesleyan was very efficient with their shots, putting seven of their eight shots on frame. Matthew Meyer saved six Pioneer shots to get the first shutout victory of his career.

Malone led the way in total shots (14-8) while the teams were even in shots on goal (7). Malone tallied 6 corner kicks to Wesleyan's five, while KWC committed 12 fouls to Malone's four.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday for their final game of the season when they take on Trevecca Nazarene at Panther Field, where they will also celebrate senior night.
