CANTON, Ohio –
Madisyn Hunt scored twice in the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team loss to Malone University on Thursday evening. The Pioneers rallied in the second half to defeat the Panthers 3-2 in double overtime.
The Panthers (3-12, 0-11 GMAC) attacked from the start of the match as
Chloe Hinchcliffe recorded the first shot five minutes into the contest. Hinchcliffe added another shot in the 16
th minute as that one was saved, but
Madisyn Hunt scored the first goal of the night three minutes later. Hunt recorded her 10
th goal of the season as
Ashlyn Payton set-up the score as Hunt quickly turned to the goal and scored.
Hunt looked to add to her total in the 29
th and 30
th minute, but both shots were stopped. In the 35
th minute, the Panthers and Hunt were not denied again as
Bree Owen found Hunt available to record her second goal of the match and 11
th on the season.
Reegan Garrity made six saves in the opening half as the Panthers maintained their 2-0 lead. The second period was a different story as the Pioneers (2-8-4, 2-6-3 GMAC) became more aggressive from the start. Garrity was on the defensive early as the Panthers defense blocked three attempts by the Pioneers in the first 15 minutes of the period. Malone took nine shots in the first 30 minutes of the half as the Panthers kept a 2-0 lead.
In the 75
th minute the Pioneers tallied their first goal of the match. In the 83
rd minute Garrity stopped a would be game-tying attempt, but a minute later in the 84
th minute Luisa Velasquez scored her first goal of the season to tie the match.
Chloe Hinchcliffe saw her potential game-winner fly wide right of the goal in the 86
th minute as the match moved into overtime. In the first overtime, the Panthers got one real good look to end the match as Hunt's shot in the 95
th minute was blocked. As the second extra period began, the Pioneers ended the match 29 seconds into double overtime with the second goal from Velasquez.
Hunt scored twice on nine attempts, three being on goal. Hinchcliffe finished three shots, one on goal. Garrity recorded eight saves on the night.
The Panthers will play Lake Erie on Saturday as their final road trip of the season continues. The match against the Storm is scheduled for 11 AM CT.
