FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team posted its lowest scores of the season at the McKendree Bearcat Invitational contested on Monday and Tuesday. The Panthers finished sixth overall after posting a season best 54-hole total of 895.
The annual event contested at Far Oaks Golf Course saw ideal conditions for 36-holes on Monday's opening two rounds. The Panthers opened play with a round of 301 (+13). A fast start turned into a bumpy finish in the opening round, but
Tyler Nickol led the way with a first round of 71 (-1).
Camden Robertson carded a round of 72 (E).
Nickol matched his opening round with another subpar round of 71(-1) to finish the day in ninth place. The Panther posted their lowest round of the year on Monday afternoon with a round of 295 (+7).
Evan Beery heated-up as the sun went down on Monday evening as he birdied his last two holes to card a career-low 71(-1). Robertson balanced out the top three scores with a round of 75(+3).
The Panthers made a strong move on Tuesday morning, but could not make-up enough shots to climb the leaderboard and remained in sixth place. Wesleyan shot 299 (+11) in the final round as Nickol and Beery posted rounds of 74(+2).
Nickol's round started slowly with four early bogeys, but he made two late birdies to post a career 54-low of even par 216. Nickol finished 11
th overall out of a field of 45 competitors. Robertson placed 21
st with a three-round total of 222 (+6). Beery was 27
th after rounds of 81-71-74.
Andreas Olsen posted rounds of 77-78-76 to finish with a 54-hole total of 231.
Evan Schumacher carded a 254 total with his first appearance in the Panthers' top-five players. With four freshmen in the line-up for the fourth consecutive tournament of the season, all players posted career low 54-hole totals.
Top team honors went to host McKendree with a three-round total of 846 (-18). The Bearcats topped runners-up Southern Indiana by seven shots.
In a separate event for individual players
Jonah Graham finished fourth out of 16 players after posting rounds of 76-81.
Blake Kelly finished with a 36-hole total of 164.
The Panthers will host their own invitational over Halloween weekend.
