INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team continued its progression with a stop at the Greyhound Open on Sunday. The Panthers featured four wrestlers in the field, two wrestling unattached.
The Panthers caught tough opening draws as
Terence Brown and
Austin Gibson matched-up against two Big Ten wrestlers. Brown lost to Malik Heinselman from Ohio State while Gibson dropped a match with Jack Cheney from Purdue. Brown advanced to the consolation second round before Vincent Priante from McKendree ended his run at 133-pounds. Brown was in control into the second period before Priante pinned Freeman in a flurry of offense.
Gibson suffered a dramatic loss in overtime in the consolation round. Tied 8-8 at the end of regulation, Timothy Wright scored a late takedown to come away with the victory.
Wrestling unattached was
Clay Critchfield at 157-pounds and
Andrew Parker at 133-pounds. Critchfield opened with Eliah Davis from Purdue while Parker had Marshall Craig, also from the Boilermakers. Both were pushed into the consolation brackets after opening losses. Critchfield advanced into the second round before Blaze Lowery from Indianapolis ended his run with a pin late in the second period.
Parker featured the most success on the day as he finished eighth overall. After his opening loss, Parker won by injury default in the consolation round. Parker was well in control of the bout before his opponent was unable to continue. In the consolation third round, Parker earned a 6-3 decision over Noah Cantu of Indianapolis. In the 7
th place match, Jonathan Moran wrestling unattached form Indiana University, defeated Parker 18-4.
The Panthers will continue their season on Tuesday with a dual at Lindenwood. The match is scheduled to start at 7 PM CT.
