ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team ended its dual season on Tuesday with a 44-0 loss to Lindenwood University. The Lions come into this week ranked seventh in the nation and feature a line-up of top-ranked wrestlers in several weight classes.
The Lions won the opening two matches by major decision. Lindenwood collected an additional major decision, tech fall, and pin later in the match. Four weight classes featured ranked opponents inside the top-10 in the nation.
Caleb Craig and Tanner Hitchcock, the sixth ranked wrestler at 141-pounds, featured a bout of back-and-forth scrambling with both of their defenses in full form. In the end a late takedown got Hitchcock separation and a 4-0 decision.
Andy Santana also face a contested match at 149-pounds as Danny Swan got a third period takedown to take a 3-1 lead and after an escape by Santana retreated the final 30 seconds to secure a 3-2 win.
Courvoisier Morrow, ranked sixth in the nation at heavyweight, defeated
Kairus Washington 10-4 to conclude the night.
The Panthers will have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Super Regionals. Competition in Hays, Kansas will start on Saturday February 29
th and continue through Sunday March 1
st.
