OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team looked to bounce back in a re-match with Wabash College on Friday evening. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Little Giants retained their upper hand against Wesleyan after a 42-0 victory.
There were a series of close bouts, but the Panthers (4-10) found themselves on the losing side in all 10 matches. The Little Giants (11-2) are ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III coming into the match on Friday night and defeated the Panthers 43-0 two weeks ago in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The matched opened at 149-pounds with
Andy Santana. Kyle Holman benefited from late takedowns at the end of periods to defeat Santana 6-4.
Kairus Washington suffered a similar fate in the heavyweight bout as he fell to Max Bishop 6-2.
Adam Bender and
Austin Cook dropped their matches at 125-pounds and 133-bounds respectively. Bender could not find an escape and was forced to chase Kory Cavanaugh's retreat throughout the match, falling 5-0. One take down was the difference at 133-pounds as Cook fell to a 3-0 decision.
The Panthers will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee on Sunday for the Cumberland Open. Competition will begin at 9 AM CT.
