FINDLAY, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team opened the Great Midwest Championship with losses to Lake Erie College and No. 8 Tiffin. The Panthers fell 37-12 in the opener with the Storm and 50-0 to Tiffin.
Kairus Washington received a forfeit at heavyweight in the opening match against Lake Erie while
Austin Cook and
Angelo Talabert picked-up wins in the opener. At 133-pounds, Cook went back-and-forth with Jason Brewster before earing an 8-6 decision.
At 174 pounds offense was most prevalent as Talabert went head-to-head with Paul Scaramuzzino. Talabert recorded the win 13-7 after a flurry of scoring.
Adam Bender fell 6-0 at 125-pounds to Jacob Johnson.
The day's second round of duals, the Panthers took-on the eighth ranked Dragons. Bender was clipped in the 125-pound match 3-2 while Washington lost an 8-2 decision to David Henson. The Dragons collected two pins and two technical falls in the match.
The Panthers will have three matches on Saturday as the Great Midwest Championship continues. Competition will start at 9 AM on the campus of Findlay University. Wesleyan will open with Alderson Braoddus with matches against Ohio Valley and Findlay to follow.
