LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team on a quick turned around got back to action on Friday. After a 23-20 loss to Lander on Thursday, the Panthers were back on the mat for the NUWAY Open.
At heavyweight
Kairus Washington recorded a pin in the second round before suffering his first loss. Washington responded by picking-up two decisions. He defeated Dominic Shelly from Baldwin Wallace 2-0 in the consolation round followed by a 5-0 decision over Austin Mooney from Rowan. Washington's run ended in the consolation sixth round with an 8-2 defeat.
Seeing his first action of the season this week,
Austin Cook finished 2-2 on the day at 133-pounds. Cook lost his opening match, advancing through the consolation bracket before eventually seeing his Open end in the fifth round.
Adam Bender received two early byes at 125-pounds before defeating Devon Johnsen from Indiana Tech 9-4. In the quarterfinals Bender suffered a tough 4-1 decision before taking another narrow loss in the consolation sixth round 10-7.
Wrestling unattached at 133-pounds was
Andrew Parker who finished 3-2 on the day. Parker picked-up a pin in the opening round and advanced into the third round after a 2-1 decision over Michael Bush from Southeastern University. After a medial forfeit, Parker was in the quarterfinals. Parker received his first lost in the quarterfinals and saw his run end in the consolation round with a 9-6 loss to Gage Hudson from Cumberlands (KY.).
The Panthers will travel to Lebanon, Tennessee on Wednesday to match-up with Cumberlands. The match is scheduled to start at 7 PM.
