OWENSBORO, KY. - Mark Shook started at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Monday September 23^rd. Shook will serve as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations. He will oversee NCAA compliance and student-athlete support services while assisting with business operations and strategic planning.
 
Shook comes to Wesleyan after five years as the University of Wisconsin's Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services. He was responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing and evaluating the overall academic services offered to the approximately 800 UW student-athletes. In addition, Shook acted as a liaison to the Office of Admissions and the Office of the Registrar and was responsible for the coordination of all reviews for prospective student-athletes.
 
Prior to working at Wisconsin, Shook spent eight years at Bowling Green. At BGSU, he served as Associate Athletic Director, with extensive experiences in the compliance and student-athlete services areas. He was the Falcons' Interim Athletics Director during the summer of 2013 and provided leadership and oversight of the comprehensive NCAA compliance and academic support services program and oversaw a dedicated staff serving the academic support and compliance needs of Bowling Green's 400+ student-athletes.
 
In 2012, Shook was selected to attend the prestigious Sports Management Institute Executive Program. The 10-day program was held on the campuses of The University of Michigan and The University of Texas at Austin and was created to meet the needs of athletic administrators in mid-to top-level management positions who aspire towards future college athletics leadership positions.
 
Shook served on the Leadership Advisory Board at Bowling Green and on a number of other campus committees as well. He was a member of the community program, Leadership BG, in 2007-08 and was inducted to Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, in the spring of 2008. In addition, he served as an instructor for the Student-Athlete Leadership course he helped develop in the spring of 2007. This course, offered only for student-athletes, enhanced their effectiveness as student leaders through a leadership practices inventory and the study of various leadership styles to assist them in developing their own leadership potential as well as defining their own philosophy on leadership.
 
In July of 2006, Shook received the Professional Promise Award for Region III from the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). The award honors professionals serving student-athletes who have shown extraordinary service to the N4A at the regional and/or national level; and outstanding performance as an academic advisor, life skills coordinator and/or administrator. Shook is a graduate of the 2005 N4A Leadership Institute and has been a presenter at the N4A National Conference as well.
 
Prior to his run at Bowling Green, Shook having was the Associate Director of Academic Support Services at Purdue from 2002-06. Prior to his tenure at Purdue, he spent a year as a part-time academic mentor and study hall proctor in the Student-Athlete Support Services Office at The Ohio State University.
 
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Bowling Green in 1992, Shook spent a decade as a high school teacher and coach in Ohio. During that time, he also earned a Master of Education degree in Sport Education from Ashland University in 2001.
 
Mark and his wife, Emily, have three daughters Madeline, Marissa and Morgan. The Shook family is in the process of relocating to Owensboro.
