OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team opened its season on Monday with a fourth place finish at the Great Midwest Fall Preview. The Panthers finished the two day event contested at The Pearl Club at 13 over par. Christian Tooley recorded a top-10 finish.
The Panthers started on Monday morning posting an even par round of 288. Wesleyan was led by Christian Tooley who opened with a four-under par round of 68. Carter Dodson came home with an even par round of 72.
Tooley made seven birdies in his opening round which included four on the back nine to come back to the house in 33. Collins Dodson shot an opening round of one over par 73 while Alex Phillips shot a three over par 75.
The University of Findlay shot five-under par 283 to hold the first day lead, five shots better than Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene. On Tuesday the Panthers posted a 301 to finish fourth. After a hot start the pace and the Panthers slowed. Four of five players made at least one birdie in their first six holes.
As the pace of play slowed down, the Panthers could not make enough birdies to keep up with the Oilers. Findlay shot a final round of 12-under par 276. Trevecca closed with a final round of three-under par 285.
Tooley shot 75 in the final round to post a 36-hole total of one-under 143 to place eighth out of 51 players. Collins Dodson shot another round of 73 to finish in a tie for 12th. Carter Dodson finished in a tie for 23rd after a final round of 77.
Phillips shot a final round of 76 to place in a tie for 28th with a total of 151. Samuel Bland posted rounds of 79-84 to round out the top five. Lance Lewis played as an individual to card rounds of 85-84.
Robert Holden from Ohio Dominican took medalist honors behind a final round of 66. His two day total of 138 gave his a one-shot victory over two players.
The Panthers will have two weeks before hosting the Kentucky Wesleyan College Fall Invitational. The 36-hole event will be played on September 29-30th at The Pearl Club.
