SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team finished eighth at the Illinois Springfield Spring Invitational on Saturday. The 36-hole event was shortened to 18-holes after sleet and rain was forecasted on Sunday.
The Panthers finished Saturday with a round of 317. Wesleyan was paced by
Christian Tooley who recorded a top-10 finish after a round of three-over par, 75. Tooley navigated through the 7,000 yard Piper Glenn Golf Course with near precision, ending his round with a birdie on the 18
th hole. Tooley placed in a tie for ninth overall.
Collins Dodson also carded a round in the 70s as he posted a round of five over par 77. Dodson finished 18
th out of a field of 60 competitors.
Rounding out the team score was
Carter Dodson who struggled down the stretch to shoot 82 and finish 35
th.
Alex Phillips finished with an 83.
Samuel Bland posted a round of 96 while
Jackson Caudill, playing as an individual, shot 87.
Lewis University won the team title with an even par round of 288. Southern Indiana was distant second with a round of 303. The Flyers' Hunter Pipik took medalist honors with a four-under par round of 68, three shots better than Noah Benbow from Illinois Central College.
The Panthers will travel to Lexington on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. The 54-hole event will be contested at the University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course.
