Dramatic Midweek Matchup

LEBANON, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team produced some late inning dramatics on Wednesday afternoon only to be out done by McKendree University. The Panthers scored five runs in the sixth of game one, but lost 6-5 on a walk-off homerun. The Bearcats took game two 5-1 two sweep the non-conference series.
 
Game One: Kentucky Wesleyan 5, McKendree 6
The Panthers (11-14) spotted the Bearcats (15-17) a four-run lead through the first four innings. McK scored a pair in the first and two more in the bottom of the fourth. Wesleyan saved their dramatics for the top of the sixth. Jamie Tempel and Meredith Daunhauer led off the frame with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners.
 
Maddie Dawson forced the first run across with a double while Jaylin Tidwell cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly. Lexie Mullen's single into center drove in another run. Caitlyn Lawson tied the game with a two-out double into center. The Panthers plated one more curtesy of an error to take a 5-4 lead. However, the Bearcats stole the game with a two-out, two-run homerun.
 
Daunhauer finished the game two for four while Evyn Hendrickson saw her start spoiled with McKendree's dramatics. Hendrickson completed five innings, allowing four runs, on five hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
 
Game Two: Kentucky Wesleyan 1, McKendree 5
The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game two, but the Bearcats tied the contest in the bottom of the second. McK managed to manufacture a run in the bottom of the third, but added three more runs in the six to provide insurance.
 
Mullen finished the game three for two. Bailey Woodall pitched a complete game, going six innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits with four strikeouts.
 
The Panthers will host Tiffin University tomorrow as Great Midwest action resumes. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 4 PM CT.
