GEORGETOWN, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team was back in action over the weekend at the Saginaw Valley Spring Invitational. The Panthers battled through the cold and wind to improve by 11 shots in the final round.
Collins Dodson posted another solid final round to move into the top-25 of a deep field of 123 players.
Frost delayed the start of the opening round as the Panthers also had to deal with wind gust of 17 miles-per-hour. Wesleyan struggled in the opening round, shooting 309. After a tough start on the back-nine, the Panthers salvaged what they could on the front nine.
Collins Dodson came home with a second-nine of one under par 35 to shoot 74, two over par.
Christian Tooley made 10-straight pars to finish his first round with a two-over par 74.
Carter Dodson also shot one-under on his final nine to open with a round of 78.
Samuel Bland rounded-out the team score after carding a round 83.
The Panthers were back to themselves in the final round as
Collins Dodson moved-up 18 spots on the leaderboard, carding a round of two-under par 70. Collins' two-day total of even par 144 finished in a tie for 21
st. Tooley closed with another round of two-over 74 to place 42
nd.
Carter Dodson birdied two of his last three holes to comeback and fire a round of 76.
Alex Phillips rounded out the team score with a final round of 78. The Panthers shot 10-over 298 in the final round to finish 18
th.
Bland shot 80 in the final round to finish with a 163 two-day total. Playing as an individual,
Jackson Caudill improved by eight shots in the final round, posting rounds of 88-80.
Ferris State posted rounds of 291 and 276 to win the 21-team event by five shots over Grand Valley State. The Bulldogs' Andrew Hammett shot rounds of 70 and 66 to earn medalist honors by two shots over Bryce Messner from Grand Valley.
The Panthers will be back on the road on Monday, April 1
st at the Music City Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University. The 36-hole event will be contested at the Hermitage Golf Club.
