CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team picked-up their second win in as many days on Wednesday. Three Panthers earned pins on the night while the Panthers defeated Thomas More 28-21.
Adam Bender started the night with one of those pins at 125 pounds. Bender made short work of James Mulenga, earning the pin at 1:54. LaMont Wilson followed at 133 pounds picking-up a 12-4 decision, giving the Panthers (2-1) a 10-0 lead.
"Adam Bender got back to his winning ways by doing what we have trained to do and he got us started with a monster fall," said Head Coach Rob McCabe. "LaMont continues to push the pace in his matches and put-up a lot of points."
Caleb Craig earned a 10-5 decision over Cameron Baird at 141 pounds while Andy Santana recorded a pin at 6:36 of his 149 match. Trevor South extended the Panthers lead to 25-0 after pinning Damien Calderon at 5:51.
"Caleb's win was proof that the weight room is paying dividends to scoring points," continued Coach McCabe. "Two takedowns were pure muscle. Trevor proved why we believe in him and pulled out of his redshirt. He gave up early points, but was able to trust his conditioning and training to pull out a win late in the match."
Dallas Miles gutted through a tough 165 match with Ryan Draughn. Miles led throughout, but Draughn made a sprint to the finish. Miles hung-on and won 8-7 with the benefit of riding time. The win clinched victory for the Panthers with four matches remaining.
The Saints(4-2) earned their first points at 174 with a pin and forfeits at 184 and 197. Kairus Washington fell 6-2 at heavyweight to end the evening.
The Panthers will turn their attention to the pinnacle event of the season, the Midwest Classic on December 14-15th. The deepest and most competitive event of the season will take place at Nicoson Hall on the University of Indianapolis campus.
