NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team snuck by Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday night by a tally of 2-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action. The game was originally scheduled to be the Panthers' G-MAC opener on September 18 but was suspended at halftime due to a power outage. The game was replayed from the start on Tuesday night per NCAA rules.
Wesleyan picked up their fourth win of the season, marking the most wins in the past five seasons.
The Trojans struck first, netting their lone goal of the game in the 12th minute of action. A mere three minutes later the game was tied at one as Anatoli Gishe found the back of the net on a corner kick.
Trevecca held the advantage in shots at the half, 12-9, with Wesleyan goalkeeper Lucas Daunhauer recording three saves before the break.
Max Wawrin scored the game winning goal in the 57th minute for the Panthers. Wawrin netted his first collegiate goal with Jake Peveler picking up the assist.
Wesleyan's defense stepped up in the second half, holding the Trojans to just two shots in the final 30 minutes of play. Trevecca finished with 17 shots on the night, four of which were on goal.
The Panthers recorded 15 shots including nine on goal. Gishe and Peveler led the team with three each while Josh Barnett and Ben Protheroe both tallied two.
Daunhauer picked up his fourth win of the season in net, finishing with three saves.
The Panthers return home this weekend in a rare Sunday afternoon game. Wesleyan will host nationally-ranked Lake Erie College at 12 pm CT at Panther Field.
