Panthers Give Chase at Fox Run

EUREKA, Mo. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team posted a 14th place finish at the Midwest Regional at Fox Run. Against a stellar field the Panthers posted rounds of 310-317-309 on the 6,945 yard golf course.
 
Wesleyan and the field faced 36 holes on Monday and got off to fast start after the fog cleared the grounds. Christian Tooley and Carter Dodson made a flurry of birdies through the opening nine holes. The momentum of the team slowed toward the end of round one. Nevertheless Dodson posted a round of one-over par 73 which featured four birdies, three bogeys, and one double. Tooley was a shot behind with a two-over 74.
 
As round two started, collectively the Panthers struggled. Tooley started the round five over through his first four holes, but rebounded late with an inward nine of two-under 34 to post a second round 75. Collins Dodson improved his opening round of 84 with a second round of 77. In the end the Panthers finished with rounds of 310 and 317 to sit in 15th place.
 
13317Tooley started the final round with three quick birdies while Carter Dodson sat at even par for most of the day. Late bogeys spoiled solid rounds as Dodson hit plenty of greens and carded a round of 74. Tooley, a former champion at Fox Run, closed with a round of 76. Dodson's three round total of 229 placed 29th overall while Tooley's 54-hole total of 225 was 20th out of 90 players.
 
Alex Phillips posted his best round of the week on Tuesday as he made five straight pars to finish and shoot 79. Coupled with rounds of 80 and 87, Phillips posted a three-round total of 246. Collins Dodson shot a closing round of 80 and fished 67th with a total of 241. Samuel Bland posted similar ounds of 83-83-85.
 
The Panthers finished 14th overall, two shots behind Lewis University and seven behind Illinois Springfield. McKendree University took top team honors with a three-round total of 889, two shots better than Maryville University. Josh Davenport won medalist honors in a four-way playoff as the quartet each posted a 54-hole total of two-under par.
 
The Panthers will return to action on October 17th with a match against Brescia University at The Pearl Club.
