SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team dropped a head-to-head battle with the University of Illinois Springfield on Tuesday. The Panthers took a three-shot loss to UIS on the Ocean Course at the Wyndham Rio Mar Golf and Beach Resort.
Monday finished just as it started with Wesleyan and Springfield tied. Both teams shot rounds of 301 on the 6721 yard layout. Collins Dodson posted the low round of the day as he opened with round of two over par 73. Christian Tooley fired an opening 75.
The Panthers fell behind early on Tuesday and were forced to play catch-up throughout the middle and end of the round. Wesleyan mounted a comeback to make things interesting down the stretch, but up came-up three shots short. Tooley bounced back, posting a final round of 72 to take top honors by one-shot over David Ayala.
Collins Dodson closed with a round of 77 to finish the event with a 150 two-day total. Alex Phillips improved his day-one total by two shots in the final round, carding a 75 on Tuesday. Samuel Bland posted back-to-back 78s while Carter Dodson finished the ultimate event of the fall with rounds of 76-80.
The Prairie Stars closed out the day with a round of 299 to top Wesleyan. The Panthers finished the fall with a 302 scoring average.
