FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's golf team finished fourth at Bearcat Intercollegiate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
Christian Tooley recoded another top-10 finish, his third in four events this season.
The Panthers opened play on Monday morning with 36 holes. On a chili, wet, and blustery morning Wesleyan adjusted to the conditions to fire an opening round of nine over par, 297. The round put the Panthers in third place.
Christian Tooley led off with a one-under par 71 while
Collins Dodson shot a one-over par 73.
Alex Phillips started play with round of 74.
The sun came out for the afternoon round as did the miles-per-hour in wind gusts. Tooley was able to manage through the day to close with a round of one-over 73 to sit at even par after 36-holes.
Carter Dodson carded a 75 in the second round, improving his opening round by four shots. His brother Collins closed Monday with a round of 74. Wesleyan shot 300 in the second round to sit in fourth place.
The strength of the wind grew in the final round as did the difficulty of the course. Tooley started his day five over through five holes. However, he made five birdies and three bogeys in the final 13 holes to shoot a final round of three-over 75. His three-round total of 219 placed seventh overall out of 35 players.
The Panthers shot a final round of 319 to remain in fourth place.
Collins Dodson finished in 19
th after a 54-hole total of 230. Both
Carter Dodson and Phillips finished in a tie for 23
rd with 235 totals.
Samuel Bland carded rounds of 79-78-82 to place 28
th.
The Saints from Maryville University won top team honors for the third year in-a-row. Maryville finished at 13 under par for the event to win by 21 shots over the host, McKendree. Alex Locke from Maryville won medalist honors with three-rounds under par, shooting 69-68-71 (-8).
The Panthers will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico on Monday to play in the Illinois Springfield Island Getaway. The 36-hole event will be contested at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort.
