Panthers Fall to Pioneers

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team fell to Malone 4-0 at Panther Field on Saturday. The Pioneers scored early and possessed the ball througout to negate the Panthers' attack.

The matched started fortunately for the Pioneers (4-5-2, 3-5-1 GMAC) as they converted the first goal of the match in the sixth minute. On a loose ball in the Wesleyan zone, Lucas Daunhauer raced out of the box to boot it away. His kick went directly into the Malone, bouncing back toward an empty Panthers' net. With Daunhauer sprinting to get back into position, Nathan McFeaters recovered the loose ball and tapped it in for the first goal of the match.

McFeater added another goal in the 26th minute as Malone ended the half with a 2-0 lead. Declan Sandifer looked to cut the deficit in half right before the break, but his shot hit the right post and bounced back into the Pioneers control. The Panthers (4-7-1, 2-6-1 GMAC) fired six shots at the Pioneers' goal in the first 45 minutes with two being on goal.

Wesleyan came out in the second half with more speed and pressure. Maxten Miller got a shot off in 56th minute, but it sailed just over the top right corner of the net. In the 61st minute, McFeaters scored again to give the Pioneers a 3-0 advantage.

Malone added another late score and Alexandre Durand finished with six saves to earn a shutout. Daunhauer made four saves on the day. Jake Peveler took four shots, three being on goal.

The Panthers will travel to Philipi, West Virginia on Thursday to play Alderson Broaddus. The match is schedule to start at 7:30 PM.
