Wesleyan Drops Meeting with Tiffin

OWENSBORO, Ky. – A first quarter deficit was too much to overcome on Saturday for the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team as they fell to league-leader Tiffin University.

The Dragons took a quick 14-0 lead after scoring on their first two drives of the game.  The Wesleyan defense halted Tiffin's momentum on their third drive of the game.  Facing fourth-and-four, Jalen Humphrey came up with a sack, giving the Panthers the ball at midfield.  However after a Panther three-and-out, Tiffin drove down the field again for their third and final score of the first quarter.

Tiffin added two more scores in the second quarter, taking a 35-0 lead that would stand until halftime.  On their ensuing drive, Moe Carter picked off a pass at the 40-yard line for his first interception of the day.

The second half began with a 95-yard kickoff return for another Dragon touchdown.  The Panthers responded with their best drive of the day, working 69-yards downfield on nine plays.

Jacob Yates hauled in an 11-yard catch for a Panther first down.  Three plays later, a holding penalty on Tiffin gave Wesleyan a fresh set of downs at the Tiffin 25-yard line.  The Panthers found the red zone for the first time all game on a five-yard run from Corey Johnson Jr.  Quarterback Mike McGee nearly connected with Chauncey Greer in the end zone but a defensive pass interference penalty put the Panthers inside the five-yard line.  Johnson Jr. punched in the five-yard run for the Panthers lone score of the game.

The Dragon's ensuing drive saw another touchdown before they scored 10 more points in the final quarter.

Wesleyan was held to season-low 121-yards of total offense while giving up a season-high 554-yards.  The Panthers found themselves in the red zone once while tallying only 10 first downs.

McGee threw for 64-yards including a 27-yard connection with Brennen McGuire.  McGuire led receivers while Landon Newman led the run game.

Moe Carter and Ramond Jackson led the defense with seven tackles a piece.  Humphrey and Tyreik Norwood both tallied one sack while Carter finished with two interceptions on the day including one in the end zone.

The Panthers close out their two-game home stand next week, hosting Ohio Dominican on Saturday, October 26.  Kick off is set for 1 pm CT at Independence Bank Field at Steele Stadium.
