ELKINS, W.Va. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat on Saturday evening to Davis & Elkins College.
The Senators took a 2-0 lead in the first 35 minutes and rode that cushion to a Great Midwest victory. Markus Just scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute on an unassisted goal. Four minutes later Carlos Cruza converted for another score to extend the D&E lead to 2-0.
Jacob Stauffer faced 11 shots in the first, seven being on goal. Stauffer made five saves in the first period.
The Panthers' offense was able to move downfield in the second half including an early shot by Troy Alexander which was blocked by the Senators' defense. Shortly thereafter Jake Peveler's shot suffered the same fate in the 50th minute.
Austin Moore got his shot in the 55th minute, but his attempt to cut the lead in half sailed right of the D&E post. The Senators added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to ensure a victory.
Wesleyan finished with six shots, Peveler took two. Stauffer played 90 minutes and made eight saves.
The Panthers return home on Thursday to host the University of Findlay. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM.
