Battle Tested

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season on Thursday, defeating Alderson Broaddus 2-1 to improve to 1-1-1 on the year for their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference win.

The Panthers controlled the first half, outshooting the Battlers 7-4, but neither team was able to score.

Madisyn Hunt broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute.  The reigning G-MAC freshman of the year found a pass from Erica Zetter and buried it for her first goal of the season.

The Battlers responded in the 67th minute with a goal of their own to even the score at one.

Less than three minutes later, Kamryn Pulliam and Hunt took on one defender and were able to find the back of the net.  Kamryn Pulliam scored her first goal of the season while Hunt picked up the assist for her third point of the match.

The Panther defense stepped up in the final 20 minutes, holding the Battlers to just two shots to preserve Wesleyan's first win of the season.

Hunt led the Panthers with six shots off the bench, four of which were on goal.  Breigh Haase and Sidney Pruitt both tallied three while Skylar Walden recorded two.

Brittany Johnston earned her first win in net, playing the full 90 minutes and making six saves.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, heading to Davis & Elkins College to take on the Senators at 6:30 pm CT.
