OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's soccer team evened its record with a 3-0 win at Brescia on Saturday evening. Jacob Stauffer and Lucas Daunhauer combined to record a shutout.
Daunhauer got his first start of his career and faced steady pressure from the Bearcats (1-1). Brescia fired seven shots at the Panthers (1-1) in the first 45 minutes, two being on goal. Daunhauer was up to the task, making both stops.
The first goal of the match was scored in the 25th minute from Victor Alhambra. The Panthers rode the momentum into intermission, leading 1-0.
Stauffer took over between the pipes in the second half and completed the shutout, but it was Austin Moore who caught the Bearcat defense napping at the start of the period. Julian Gonzalez found Moore available in transition and a step in front of the defense in the 46th minute. In stride Moore beat Jacob Stanley to the lower left of the net.
Moore added another goal in the final five minutes to secure plenty of insurance for the win. The Panthers fired 17 shots at the Bearcats' net, eight being on goal.
The Panthers will embark on the journey to Phillipi, West Virginia on Thursday for open Great Midwest play against Alderson Broaddus. The match is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM CT.
