OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to McKendree University less than two minutes into extra time on Friday to open its 2018 season. The Panthers fall to 0-1 on the new season while the Bearcats start the season at 1-0.
Wesleyan had an opportunity in the closing minutes of the first half with a break away pass but were unable to take advantage of the scoring chance. The Panthers held the Bearcats to eight shots in the first half.
The second half proved to be physical but neither team was able to find the back of the net, forcing extra time. The Bearcats scored the game winning goal on their first shot of overtime.
The Panthers were out shot 26-5 during the contest with
Madisyn Hunt leading the way with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Shelby Stearsman played all 91:28 in goal, making 14 saves and allowing one goal.
Wesleyan heads to Findlay, Ohio this weekend to open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, taking on the Oilers of the University of Findlay at 12 pm CT on Sunday.
