HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team saw its five game conference win streak come to an end on Thursday, dropping their first ever trip to Hillsdale by a tally of 83-58.
The Panthers scored the first basket of the game after Keelie Lamb grabbed a steal and took it to the basket. Jenna Martin nailed a three pointer to break the tie and put Wesleyan ahead once again. Lily Grimes forced a turnover and found Lamb for a fast break lay up to gain a five-point lead.
Hillsdale scored eight unanswered points over a three minute span to take their first lead of the game. In the final two seconds of the first frame, Martin swiped the ball and tabbed a jumper in the pain to beat the buzzer and make it a six-point game.
Emma Wolfe knocked in a three pointer to cut the deficit to two midway through the second quarter. The Chargers were able to pull away with a double-digit lead, the first for either team. Grimes sunk a pair of free throws with 0.6 seconds on the clock to make it a 37-26 game at the break.
The Panthers heated up in the second half, improving their shooting percentage by nearly eight percent. Wesleyan tallied 19 points in the final frame, the most of any quarter but were unable to close the gap.
Lamb led Wesleyan with 19 points, her third straight game in double figures and ninth of the season. The sophomore also led the team in rebounds (six), assists (three) and steals (two). Grimes also reached double figures, scoring 16 including seven from the charity stripe.
