FINDLAY, Ohio - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team suffered a 85-63 loss to the University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon. As a apart of ESPN's Division II Showcase, the Oilers won their 15th game by putting their free-throw shooting on display.
In front of large crowd at the Croy Center, the Panthers (11-8, 7-8 G-MAC) struggled to find their footing in the early going. The Oilers (15-4, 12-3 G-MAC) scored the first 11 points of the game before Shayla Wright put an end to the rally with an uncontested lay-up. Keelie Lamb converted a lay-up at the end of the first period to cut deeper into the Oilers' lead, 16-7.
Findlay's lead grew to as many as 20 points in the second quarter, 32-12, but Wesleyan put together a late spurt in the final four minutes of the half. Jenna Martin scored five consecutive points in the next two possessions to get the Panthers to 32-17. Martin continued her inside-outside shooting as she converted a lay-up and three-point basket in the final two minutes to bring the Panthers within 13, 36-23.
In total, it was an 11-4 run before two late free-throws by the Oilers extended the lead to 38-23 at the break. Martin polished-off the first half with 12 points.
Wesleyan did not find the same offensive out-put at the start of the third quarter. The Oilers started the frame aggressively and built a 54-30 lead in just over five minutes.
Findlay got to the foul-line throughout the contest, making 28 of 29 to the Panthers eight of 12. Martin finished with 18 points, while Emma Wolfe made four, three-point buckets to aide her scoring 16 points. Lamb also reached double-figures with 12 points.
The Panthers will return home on Thursday to host Cedarville. The contest marks Kentucky Wesleyan's Alumni Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT
