OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat to Ohio Valley University on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots got ahead early at Panther Field and did not look back.
In the 20
th minute of the match Thais Dos Santos scored the first goal of the match. The Fighting Scots (3-0-2, 2-0-1 G-MAC) added to their lead in the 30
th minute after a scramble in front of the Panthers' net resulted in Ana Da Costa finding the loose ball and scoring her first goal of the season.
OVU added on more in the first period in the 37
th minute, taking a 3-0 lead. Seconds before the break,
Madisyn Hunt got the Panthers (0-4, 0-3 G-MAC) on the board with a free kick. Hunt recorded her second goal of the season as Wesleyan looked to flip momentum in the second frame.
However, a physical contest turned the way of the Fighting Scots midway through the second half. OVU added scores in the 62
nd and 69
th minute to build a 5-1 cushion. The Fighting Scots took 35 shots on the day, 22 being on goal.
The Panthers finished the contest with 10 shots, three being on goal.
Rachel Kinsolving made 10 saves while
Taylor Rentchler converted three.
